CABIN 50
Location
London
Date
2021
Located on Great Portland Street, London, this super studio occupies a building with a notable history as the former lodge for the Cunard White Star Line during the 1930s. The existing interior configuration presented challenges related to insufficient natural light and ventilation due to compartmentalization, and the fit-out had experienced degradation over time.
The conceptual design aimed to evoke the ambiance of a ship's cabin through the incorporation of dark wood finishes, brass detailing, and black window surrounds. Foresso worktops were specified to provide textural continuity and complement the timber joinery throughout the space. Material usage was carefully optimized, with worktop dimensions designed to maximize yield from two sheets, and offcuts repurposed to create a dining table, stools, and a coffee table, demonstrating a commitment to resource efficiency and design cohesion.
The concept design tried to evoke the feeling of the ship's cabin using dark wood, brass detailing and black window surrounds. All worktops enjoy the texture of Foresso to express the continuity and to match the wooden joineries. Their sizes are optimised to two sheets only and offcuts became a dining table, stalls and a coffee table.
