S+C is an architecture, design, and development practice founded on a process of creative and interdisciplinary collaboration by Michiko Sumi and Louis Cobben. Following their prior professional partnership, Michiko Sumi takes a creative design leadership role, enriched by her academic experience teaching at the Bartlett School of Architecture. Louis Cobben contributes his architectural and development acumen, complemented by his expertise in investment management and MBA. Operating across a range of scales, encompassing masterplanning, residential, retail, office, cultural projects to furniture design, S+C functions as an architectural practice while actively pursuing development opportunities to deliver innovative and financially viable solutions. Who we are
Michiko Sumi ARB RIBA
Michiko Sumi is a London-based architect and educator, originally from Tokyo, Japan, who moved to the UK in 2000. She holds a Postgraduate Masters MArch from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, where she is currently a Lecturer and leads Studio 3A of the MSci course, having previously led Master's Unit 17 and Undergraduate Unit 0.
In 2025, she co-founded S+C with Louis Cobben, following as a Director at Kohn Pederson Fox Associates, where she served as lead designer for significant mixed-use developments such as Bermondsey and Floral Court in Covent Garden.
Her prior professional experience includes roles at Ay-architects, Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners, David Chipperfield Architects, and Kajima Construction UK. Alongside her practice, she actively collaborates on research initiatives and architectural projects.
Louis Cobben ARB RIBA MBA
Louis Cobben is a Dutch-trained architect and entrepreneur, originally from Maastricht, who relocated to the UK after residing in Singapore. He holds an MBA, for which he received Top of Class. His distinctive career integrates architectural expertise with a strong understanding of development and investment management. He graduated from Eindhoven University of Technology.
In 2025, he co-founded S+C with Michiko Sumi, following his role as an Associate Principal at Kohn Pederson Fox Associates, where he led the design for notable projects such as Draka in Amsterdam and various international masterplans, including those in China.
Having lived in diverse global cities, including Singapore, New York, Amsterdam, and London, he possesses a broad perspective on sustainable development. His dual expertise in architecture and investment management enables him to effectively assess property and land value for future development opportunities.
