LFA + Japanese Embassy
What does it mean to be a young Japanese architect in London? This exhibition explores the intersection of Japanese heritage and London living through the eyes of five designers. Educated and practicing in this diverse cultural hub, they present five unique "homes" within inner-city London, each reflecting individual interpretations of place shaped by their Japanese backgrounds, British architectural education, and professional experiences. Their work offers a transnational perspective on city life, inviting audiences to consider cultural exchange through the intimate lens of architecture.
The Embassy of Japan received the first Silver Pigeon Award for their 'IE ≈ Home' exhibition at the International Architecture Showcase 2010, featuring work by young Japanese architects in London: Hiroki Kakizoe, Masaki Kakizoe, Akira Kindo, Tokuichiro Oba, and Michiko Sumi.
